Everything you need to know about a Maxi-cosi

Alles wat je moet weten over een Maxi-Cosi

Which car seat offers the best protection? Where do you safely place the car seat? And what age guidelines apply now? We get these questions every day. That is why we have listed the most important information for you:

The latest i-Size safety standards (ECE R129)

The i-Size standard (ECE R129) is the current European standard that replaces the older R44/04 standard. This standard offers important improvements:

  • Height instead of weight : Car seats are classified by the child's height instead of weight, ensuring a more precise fit
  • Mandatory rearward facing travel up to 15 months : Research shows this is the safest position for babies and toddlers
  • Enhanced side impact protection : All i-Size seats must provide side impact protection
  • ISOFIX mounting required : For maximum stability and minimum installation errors
  • More extensive crash testing : Including tests with dummies that more accurately reflect the vulnerability of children

Since 2022, further improvements have been made to the test protocols, particularly in the areas of roll protection and impact absorption at higher speeds.

Our range includes fully i-Size certified models such as the innovative Maxi-Cosi Mica with a 360° rotation system for easy entry and exit, and the versatile Pearl, which offers perfect protection together with the right ISOFIX base.

Second-hand car seats: what to look out for?

When asking whether a second-hand Maxi-Cosi is safe, we apply the following ANWB guidelines:

  • Age : Do not use a seat older than 6 years (tightened guideline since 2023)
  • Certification : Check that the model complies with current standards (preferably i-Size/ECE R129)
  • Material Integrity : Inspect thoroughly for cracks, deformities or visible wear.
  • Accident history : Never use a seat that has been involved in an accident
  • Completeness : All original parts, labels and manual must be present

At Tiny Library, all our car seats go through a strict safety check with advanced measuring equipment that can detect micro-damage. Our special shock meter registers whether a seat has ever suffered a significant impact.

Correct placement in the car

You can place the Maxi-Cosi car seat in both the back and the front, with a few important conditions:

  • Front : The passenger airbag MUST be deactivated - this is a legal requirement
  • In the back : The safest place is the middle seat (if equipped with the correct seat belts or ISOFIX)
  • ISOFIX mounting : For detailed information on how to correctly install ISOFIX systems, please see our dedicated ISOFIX page

How long can a child sit in a car seat?

Experts advise not to leave babies in a car seat for longer than 1.5 to 2 hours at a time. Long-term restricted freedom of movement can be detrimental to motor development. On longer journeys, plan regular breaks during which your baby is taken out of the seat.

Optimal safety during use

  • Belt tension : The belts should be tight with a maximum of 1-2 fingers between the belt and the child
  • Correct height adjustment : Check regularly that the headrest and harness points are at the correct height as your child grows.
  • Winter clothing : Remove heavy coats before securing the child - the straps should sit directly against the body
  • Regular check : Check the installation regularly for stability

Accessories and maintenance

A protective cover for your Maxi-Cosi is not an unnecessary luxury. Choose officially approved covers that do not affect safety. The fabric cover of all Maxi-Cosi models is removable and usually machine washable at 30°C.

Because we at Tiny Library professionally clean and maintain all our car seats between periods of use, you can always count on a hygienic and well-functioning seat for your little one.
